Mission
Community
Action Halfway Home provides practical and emotional support to people with mental health problems to enable them to improve
the quality of their lives.
Halfway was established in 1975 by a group of students from Sheffield University.
These students felt there was a need for a ‘halfway house’ for people moving out of Middlewood long stay mental
health hospital. Much has changed in the intervening years. The organisation provides a range of services for over 100 people
with mental health needs in Sheffield. We deliver a high quality service (IIP, QAF, PQASSO).

Support planning
Everyone is treated as an individual and is encouraged
to think about what they want for their future, and with the help of project workers, find ways to make these things happen. When clients start at CAHH they work on
‘a support plan’, which is drawn up with keyworkers, clients and other people involved in support provision at
the ‘support agreement’ meeting. This is a plan that sets out what clients want to achieve, how they intend to
reach their goals and what kind of support they would find most helpful from staff. The plan looks at the client’s lives
on a day-to-day basis. For many clients it forms part of their care programme approach (CPA) which is the
wider plan that involves people like social workers, psychiatrists and community psychiatric nurses, and is designed to address
clients’ overall needs.
All staff are experienced mental health workers, all are qualified to NVQ level 3 and many
have a professional qualification in social work, nursing, etc.
